Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the USAID Feed the Future Extension Activity Programme through the Department of Agricultural Extension Services to promote effective extension delivery. The partnership has attracted other development agencies involved in Extension Services in Nigeria, these include the Rural Resilience Activity (Mercy Corps), Farther to Farmer Extension Activity all of WinrockInternational and Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise – Niger Delta (LIFE-ND).
The Federal Department of Agricultural Extension plays its leadership role in the Community of Practices during it formation and constant participation in discussions and validation of Most Impactful Practices developed by USAID FtFExtension Activity, meant for dissemination to farmers and extension agents.
In pursuit of its mandate, the Department is partnering with USAID FtF Extension Activity, Rural Resilience Activity (Mercy Corps), WinrockInternational Farmer to Farmer (F2F) Program and the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprise – (Niger Delta) to integrate the Private Sector components and most Impactful Practices of effective extension service delivery to the agricultural value chains into the current Extension Training Manual.
The Technical Review Team for this exercisecomprised agricultural extension professionals and experts in the public and private sector extension delivery system drawn from the Development Partners (USAID, FTF, Rural Resilience – Mercy Corp, LIFE -ND, F2F), National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services, Sasakawa Africa Association, Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta, National Roots Research Institutes and the Federal Department of Agricultural Extension.
The Inauguration was chaired by the Permanent Secretary (FMARD), Mr. Ernest Umakhihe. The Director, Federal Department of Agricultural Extension gave a welcome speech addressing the importance of the exercise to the agricultural extension delivery system in Nigeria. All partners gave their good will message and pledged to work as a team to achieve the expected goal of agricultural extension in Nigeria.
